Dee was a friendly, outgoing, and inclusive lady. I remember her working in the Yosef office at Appalachian. She was a top salesperson and co-worker of another Mountaineer, Larry Petitt. She was a neighbor in Charlotte and a fellow member of the APP Alumni Council years ago. She rode with me to a council meeting in Greensboro once and only laughed (not fussed) when I took the wrong road out of town and it took us too long to get back to Charlotte. She and Jim were good coaches and boosters for their kids in school and sports. Robin and I enjoyed the tailgate Stadium lot visits prior to the APP football games for many years. She will be fondly remembered as a loyal APP alum and friend to many. I admired the togetherness that she and Jim demonstrated with Jimmy, Lauren, Ryan, and their families.....our sympathies to you.

I am so saddened by Dyette’s passing. I have fond memories of our years together at Mt Tabor High School. Prayers for her husband, children, and grandkids. Her tribute was beautiful.

Jim, Lauren, Jimmy & Ryan,
I was so very sorry to hear of Dee's passing. It's been a long time since we met at the old Standard Register office in Charlotte, but those were some of the happiest times of my working life, and Dee was always right in the middle of those best times. Sure, we did a lot of hard work together, but MAN she was the best at a practical joke! I could never once ding her with one but she didn't raise the stakes and blow me out of the water! She also saw whatever potential in me she saw, and hauled me along to client visits, introducing me to her contacts at the old First Union, where we tag-teamed projects and where she finally pushed me to interview when I was ready for my next challenge. "Don't do anything until I talk to Frankie," she said. Here I am 24 years later. Do I thank her for that or cuss her? Ask me tomorrow... My answer may change.
It was a pleasure to continue the relationship even at the bank, when I could always rely on her expertise and support in any complex project. Dee made business a pleasure - which is far too rare anymore. I missed the days at SRC when she'd grab pizza as we worked late, or she'd come in with kids in tow. Maybe they'd settle in to do homework, but just as often, we'd have handtruck races up the halls or I'd lift Ryan over my head with his arms outstretched in fighter jet mode to run to the other end of the hall and back. Dee was a fierce Mama... in her love, protectiveness and pride. She was just as fierce a friend - ready to stand fast with you in all things. Everything she did, she did it wide open, with a heart as big as all outdoors. The world was greater and brighter for her being in it, and I know I am better for having known her.
It's been a long time since I left Charlotte for points North, but I am with you all today in thought. I have too much experience with loss to counsel you to not grieve. Grief is a noble thing and has its season. The tears that fall today are hallowed with love, and have no shame. Your hearts are full and we are all with you. One day you will find that you think of Dee only in love, but that is not today. For now, know the love of all your friends is with you, as it is with Dee.
