Obituary of Lee Black

Margo Lee Black, 83, of Charlotte, affectionately known as Papa, passed away Monday, March 14, 2022. Born at St. Peter’s Hospital Saturday, October 1, 1938, in Charlotte, North Carolina, he was the son of the late Thomas Franklin Black, Jr. and Marjorie Virginia hicks Cochrane. Lee graduated from Old Harding High School, served in the U.S. Navy and ultimately retired from a dedicated career in banking. His fondest childhood memories were centered around summers spent at a family farm in Pageland, S.C. Lee was known for his well-dressed style and was voted best dressed in high school. He was seldom without his beloved pipe. He loved animals and enjoyed offshore fishing. He pitched for Northwestern Bank’s softball team for many years and relished Shag music and dancing. Lee was an avid Charlotte Catholic football fan and became an ardent supporter of any team involving his children or grandsons. Above all else, Lee enjoyed spending time with his grandsons – the greatest joys of his life. Lee is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 58 years, Dianne Glickert Black; daughter, Jennifer Leigh Black; son, Bradford “Brad” Franklin Black and his wife, Kathryn; grandsons: Bryce Thomas, Ethan Bradford and Luke Harrison Black; and many more extended family and friends. In addition to Thomas and Marjorie, Lee was preceded in death by his stepmother, Mary Agnes Black, and stepfather, Brice Cochrane. The family would like to give a very special thank you to Hospice and Palliative Care – Charlotte Region, especially Brittany Coleman, and the 7th floor Staff – Cardiac Wing, Charlotte Medical Center. A celebration of Lee’s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Charlotte Catholic High School Athletic Association, 7702 Pineville-Matthews Road, Charlotte, NC 28226.
