Obituary of Oscar Stanley Powell

Oscar Stanley Powell, age 92, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 23, 2018 at Carolina’s Medical Center Mercy South Division.

Oscar was born on March 19, 1926 in Langley, South Carolina to the late Oscar P. Powell Sr. and Laura Jones Powell.

Oscar completed high school and went on to work as a bookkeeper in the food service industry.

Oscar had been a resident of Charlotte, NC for many years. He was a kind and friendly man and will be greatly missed by many.

Oscar is survived by his son O. Stanley Powell of Augusta, Georgia and several step children. He is also survived by the daughter of his only sister, Rosalyn B. Harrison of Philadelphia, PA. He is also survived by his friend T. Mitchell Simpson, of Charlotte, NC.

In addition to his late parents, Oscar was preceded in death by his late wife Eleanor Moffa Powell who died in 2014 and his late sister Laura Powell Barclay.

Graveside services were held on Wednesday, May 30, 2018 at Sharon Memorial Park, 5400 Monroe Road, Charlotte, NC 28212.

Contributions in Oscar’s memory may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
